Colombia's Senate Approves 634.9 Trillion Peso Budget for 2027
Both chambers of Congress signed off on the national budget for next year, clearing a key legislative milestone for the incoming administration.

The Colombian Senate approved the 2027 national budget on October 20, setting total spending at 634.9 trillion pesos, according to reports from EL PAÍS and the Senate of Colombia.
Both chambers of Congress voted to approve the measure, the Senate confirmed in its own official communications. The budget will govern public finances during the first full year of president-elect Abelardo de la Espriella's administration, which begins on August 7, 2027.
The approval comes as the outgoing government of Gustavo Petro continues to manage the transition period. Petro, who has been in office since 2022, is constitutionally barred from seeking re-election and will hand power to De la Espriella on inauguration day.
Details on the budget's main spending priorities were not immediately available in the reports confirmed for this edition.
