Finance Minister Flags Fiscal Pressures, Government Seeks Earlier IMF Review
Finance Minister Miguel Gómez Martínez outlined strains on public finances and confirmed the government has requested an earlier Article IV consultation with the IMF.

Finance Minister Miguel Gómez Martínez on Monday described significant pressures on Colombia's public finances, citing spending levels, debt and state obligations as key concerns. The assessment came as the de la Espriella administration works to define its economic footing.
El País reported that the government has requested an earlier-than-scheduled Article IV consultation with the International Monetary Fund. The report was careful to clarify that this does not mean a new IMF loan has been approved or that an adjustment program has been agreed.
The move follows recent government engagement in Washington over fiscal matters. An earlier IMF review would give Colombia a formal external assessment of its economic situation at a moment when budget pressures are drawing attention from markets and policymakers alike.
