ELN Drone Attack Kills Three Soldiers at Military Post in Norte de Santander

At least three Colombian soldiers were killed and four others injured in a drone attack on a military compound in Ocaña, Norte de Santander, on the night of September 4. Authorities attributed the assault to the National Liberation Army, known as the ELN.

According to AFP, around 20 explosive-laden drones were used in the attack before armed clashes broke out inside the facility. The incident took place in the Catatumbo region, near the Venezuelan border, one of the most conflict-affected corridors in the country.

The use of drones to deliver explosives against a military installation marks a significant escalation in tactics by the guerrilla group. Colombian security forces have been engaged in ongoing operations in the region, which has long been a stronghold for illegal armed groups.

The attack drew immediate condemnation and renewed attention to the security situation in Norte de Santander as the incoming administration of president-elect Abelardo de la Espriella prepares to take office.
