Colombian Peso Holds Near Eight-Year Low Against the Dollar
The TRM was set at $3,053.48 on Thursday, one of its lowest levels since 2018, even as the market closing price edged up to $3,062.97 on trading volume exceeding USD 1.7 billion.

The Tasa Representativa del Mercado for August 20 was fixed at $3,053.48 pesos per dollar, a level that El País de Cali described as one of the lowest for the Colombian currency since 2018. The rate represents a drop of $17.92 from the previous session and keeps the peso close to the psychologically significant $3,000 barrier.
Despite the low TRM, Infobae reported that the actual market closing price on Thursday averaged $3,062.97, a rise of $9.49 from the official rate, with trading volume surpassing USD 1.7 billion, reflecting active participation from institutional and commercial players.
Analysts have linked the peso's strength in part to the emergency economic measures and to expectations around the Colombia-U.S. trade talks, though the stronger currency is a double-edged development. La República noted that the revaluation has already pushed the trade deficit to roughly double its June 2025 level, as cheaper imports flood the market and pressure domestic producers.
For Colombians sending remittances from the United States, the stronger peso means their dollars buy fewer pesos at home, a dynamic worth watching as the exchange rate continues to hover near multi-year lows.
