Colombia's Usury Rate Drops for the First Time This Year, Set at 29.24% for September

Colombia's usury rate for consumer and ordinary credit will stand at 29.24% in September 2026, marking the first decline of the year after the rate had climbed to a higher peak earlier in 2026, according to reports updated on September 1.

The usury rate sets the ceiling on what financial institutions can legally charge borrowers on these loan categories. Its reduction, however modest, eases cost pressures slightly for households that depend on consumer credit.

The adjustment was certified and reported by El Espectador and La República, both of which noted the significance of the first downward move of the year for Colombian borrowers navigating a period of elevated interest rates.
