Colombia's economy expanded 3.5% year-on-year in the second quarter of 2026, statistics agency DANE reported on 18 August, marking a notable pickup from the 2.2% annual growth recorded in the first quarter. On a quarterly basis, the economy grew 1.3% compared with Q1 2026.
The data point to a broad acceleration in economic activity despite external headwinds and the shock of the August 10 earthquake, which struck after the quarter had already closed. Analysts will be watching closely to see how reconstruction spending and emergency measures affect the second-half outlook.
The stronger growth figure offers the De la Espriella administration a degree of macroeconomic breathing room as it grapples with the immediate demands of disaster response and the longer-term challenge of rebuilding affected communities.
