Chocó earthquake death toll rises to 329 as humanitarian crisis deepens across 15 departments
Two weeks after a magnitude 7.4–7.5 earthquake struck Chocó, Colombia's government and the UN are warning of a rapidly deteriorating humanitarian situation affecting nearly 283,000 people.
The Colombian government has maintained a state of emergency across 15 departments following the Mw 7.4–7.5 earthquake that struck Chocó on 10 August. As of 24 August, UN OCHA and the country humanitarian team estimate approximately 282,700 people have been affected by the disaster.
The latest figures show at least 329 fatalities, 4,548 people injured, 426 still missing, and more than 134,000 homes damaged. International support and coordination have been expanded in response to the scale of the crisis.
Humanitarian assessments describe the situation as rapidly deteriorating, with access to affected communities and the delivery of aid remaining critical challenges for response teams on the ground.
