Bogotá's La Cuchara Opens Its First U.S. Location in Miami
The beloved Bogotá restaurant brought its traditional mondongo and arepas to a 120-seat Miami dining room on July 1, with plans to expand to Atlanta and New York by 2027.

La Cuchara, a Bogotá institution known for its sopa de mondongo and freshly made arepas, opened its first United States location in Miami on July 1. The restaurant, which has built a loyal following in Colombia over the years, is betting on the city's large and growing Colombian community as its initial U.S. base.
The Miami branch seats 120 diners and includes a takeout counter, a nod to the fast-paced rhythms of the city. The ownership group told the Miami Herald and El Nuevo Herald that the menu will stay faithful to the Bogotá original, with no concessions to fusion trends.
Expansion is already on the table. The company has announced plans to open additional locations in Atlanta and New York by 2027, two cities with substantial Colombian diaspora populations that have long lacked a direct connection to this particular slice of Bogotá's food culture.
The opening comes at a moment when Colombian cuisine is enjoying broader visibility in the United States, partly fueled by World Cup attention on the country. For Colombians in South Florida, La Cuchara's arrival is a chance to taste home without boarding a plane.
